If you're a Manchester based business and you're looking to grow today, I'm joined with Kasra Dash. What bit of advice would you give to a Manchester business owner before they started to spend any sort of money on marketing?
Kasra Dash: So Manchester based businesses, the number one issue that I see with Manchester business owners is they end up spending money on a variety of different channels and they don't know which channels are actually generating them the leads or the highest converting or the highest quality leads. You want to be able to pinpoint that as a business owner. So what I would recommend is go out and set up a KPI sheet. That KPI sheet should have a few things. How much money you are spending on each channel. How many leads are actually being generated by those channels whether it is Facebook ads, social media, AI or whatever the case is. Of those leads, how many of those leads are actually picking up the phone. Are they contactable leads or is it Mickey Mouse filling out the contact form. Then out of those leads that do pick up, how many of those are actually converting into paying customers for your company. Once you have these numbers you might find that you are spending £6,000 a month on PPC but it is your lead generation company or your SEO channel that is actually generating the best leads. In that case you might lower the spend on PPC and increase the spend with your lead generation provider or SEO agency because it becomes far more predictable for generating high quality leads every single month. So James Dooley, let's get into the digital marketing channels. What is the first channel that you would recommend?
James Dooley: Step number one for me has got to be branding or brand SEO and making certain that you're looking good online and that you have a strong reputation. Everything needs to start with the foundations and those foundations start with a positive brand SER which stands for search engine results page. That is what people see when they search your business name. Getting that branding right across the board then leads into other digital marketing strategies because it improves your conversion rate on paid ads or social media. Any leads that you generate will convert better if customers check your reputation before making a decision. My next strategy is AI visibility. More and more companies are looking into this. What does ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok or Perplexity say about your brand or your business? Is it positive or negative? Businesses should also analyse what these AI platforms say about competitors and try to improve their own brand visibility. Some people call this AI SEO, some call it GEO or LLM optimisation. It is going to become a major factor in 2026 and beyond.
Kasra Dash: I think that is a huge strategy that people need to look at because artificial intelligence usage is increasing rapidly. Organic social media is another important strategy. It is largely a numbers game. Businesses should consistently create content that their audience wants to see.
