James Dooley: If you are a business based in London, within the county of Greater London, within England, the capital city, and you're looking to grow, then there's lots of different digital marketing strategies that you could be doing. A lot of people are talking about AI SEO and trying to get your brand mentioned in those large language models. But which large language model would suit your brand the best? Which one will get you the highest quality leads? And which one would get you a return on investment, or is it just a branding play to try to get your brand put into ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Grock, Gemini, or in the AI overviews within Google. There are so many different strategies that you could be doing, but getting a return on investment is the most important part within London. I attend quite a lot of different masterminds and SEO meetups, and I'm hearing the same problems. People are wasting money on marketing strategies that are not getting them the return on investment that they should be getting. So before we get started on the different types of digital marketing strategies to generate more enquiries or help their businesses grow in 2026, Kazra, what bit of advice would you give to a London based business owner or entrepreneur before they started to put any money into PPC or social media or SEO?
Kasra Dash: The biggest piece of advice I would give to London based businesses would be to go and set up a list of KPIs. Track how much money you're spending on each digital marketing channel, how many leads each digital marketing channel is actually generating, and what the contact rate of those leads is. For example, if you get 10 leads, how many of them actually pick up the phone when your sales team calls them? Then track how much money you are actually generating from those leads. Out of the 10 leads, maybe five people pick up the phone and five people do not. Out of the five that pick up, only two might convert into paying customers. Once you have your numbers set up like that, you can look at every single channel and decide what stays on and what gets turned off. You might say Facebook ads are the lowest converting channel and you are paying the most, so you turn off Facebook ads and double down on your lead generation company or your SEO agency because SEO has been the biggest driver. That way you can take predictable steps on which channels to turn on and which channels to turn off. James, which channel would you first recommend?
James Dooley: Step number one for me has got to be branding or brand SEO and making certain that you're looking good online and you've got a strong reputation. Everything needs to start with the foundations, and the foundations need to start with a positive brand SERP of who you are and what you do. SERP stands for search engine results page. Getting that branding right across the board can lead on to other things you can do. It will improve your conversion rate on paid ads or social media. Any leads that you're getting, the conversion rate will be better if at the last moment they are deciding who they are going to go with. Branding becomes very important, so that is the first thing people need to get right for all digital marketing strategies. My next strategy is AI visibility. More and more companies are looking into this. What do ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grock, and Perplexity say about your brand or business? Is it positive or negative? You should also figure out what it says about your competitors and work to improve it. Some people call it AI SEO, some people call it GEO, and some people call it LLM optimisation. This is going to be a big thing in 2026 and the years to come.
Kasra Dash: That is a huge strategy that people need to be looking at with regards to artificial intelligence because more and more people are using AI. James Dooley: Next on the list is Google Business Profiles, so Google Map listings. This is local SEO where you try to get more reviews and build out your Google Business Profile in your local area. There are pros and cons. The biggest pro is that once it is ranking, you can generate leads consistently. The issue is that if you have no Google Maps listing and you want to rank in position one, you might have a 60 or 100 review deficit. To get those reviews, you need leads, so it can be a chicken and egg problem. It is still good for personal branding and company branding, so always set it up, but understand the pros and cons.
Kasra Dash: If you're in a local area, you want those local Maps listings. You also need to be omnichannel and omnipresent. The next part is SEO in general, so organic SEO. Build up your website to rank better. If you are in a local area, you might want to create service pages for where you cover, then share them on your Google Business Profile. Organic rankings matter because there is search volume for the services you offer and for blog content as well. You want good quality content, topical authority, and third party backlinks to improve the site and win organic SEO rankings. That is another big part of digital marketing strategies in 2026.
James Dooley: Next is organic social media. Organic social media is a numbers game. Create content your audience will actually watch. A lot of brands have posted four or five times on Instagram and then gone quiet for three years, and that will not drive sales. Do how to content, guides, and before and afters. That helps people see you on social, click through, learn more, and fill in your contact form. It is free, but you need consistency. Upload at least three or four times a week.
Kasra Dash: Paid social ads are also massive. If you are taking the time to post regularly, spend a few pounds boosting the best posts. Boost case studies and awards to build reputation. You can also run retargeting ads for people who visited your website. You can run paid ads on Meta, so Facebook and Instagram, plus Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, and even Reddit. Paid social media is still an untapped market for digital marketing strategies.
James Dooley: The next one is PPC, like Google Ads or Bing. PPC is a love hate relationship. Some business owners spend £10,000, £15,000, or £20,000 and get nothing. Others spend hundreds of thousands and say it is the best thing they have done. The difference is usually setup and management. PPC needs a proactive negative keyword list, banned IPs to reduce competitor clicks and click fraud, a high converting landing page, and a sales team that responds fast. If you are not on it, PPC will not work. If you have the right setup, landing pages, sales process, and fraud protection, PPC can perform well. Know the pros and cons.
Kasra Dash: Paid ads on AI platforms could also be worth watching. It is not fully rolled out yet, but ChatGPT may roll out ads, and platforms like Claude and Perplexity could follow in 2026. Early adopters could get cheaper leads or cheaper contact form submissions, so keep an eye on paid AI listings and ads.
James Dooley: Another channel is forums like Reddit and Quora. This is partly out of your control because it depends on whether customers are talking about you after the fact. If customers are recommending you, that can generate enquiries. Ask for reviews and referrals because that increases the chances of people mentioning you in the places others trust.
Kasra Dash: Reddit has another benefit because it gets cited a lot in AI overviews. If you can get positive discussion about your products and services, it can help AI visibility as well. The last one for me is tradesman websites like Checkatrade, Bark, Rated People, and MyBuilder, plus third party lead generation companies. With all of these channels, track KPIs and return on ad spend. Measure your time, spend, and performance across organic social and paid ads. Tradesman platforms can deliver a strong return on investment, so keep using the ones that work. Lead generation companies can also deliver, whether they use SEO, PPC, or paid social, as long as you get a positive return. One more time on Fat Rank and Promo SEO.
