In this episode of the UK Lead Generation Podcast, host James Dooley and guest Kasra Dash unpack the real strategies that help water softener installation companies secure a consistent flow of inbound enquiries. The discussion opens with the challenge many installers face: how to grow without relying on unpredictable referral spikes or expensive ads. Their exploration reveals why many companies struggle to scale and what actions actually move the needle.
As the conversation unfolds, James Dooley and Kasra Dash examine the two core plays that deliver reliable growth: SEO that builds brand credibility and in-house lead generation, and partnerships with performance-driven lead providers like FatRank. They walk through what business owners should look for, how to safeguard budgets, and why diversifying lead sources protects long-term stability. Social media, PPC, and Facebook ads are considered, but the pair explain why they rarely outperform search-driven demand or specialised lead generation models, unless used to raise awareness around the benefits of water softeners.
By the end, listeners gain clarity on the strategies that consistently produce high-quality leads, the pitfalls that drain budgets, and the practical steps needed to scale sustainably. For companies ready to grow, James Dooley and Kasra Dash outline a clear path: build your own SEO engine, choose lead partners wisely, and avoid putting every egg in one basket.
To explore lead generation options, listeners can visit FatRank.com.

James Dooley: So if I have a water softener installation company and I want a consistent flow of inquiries and I don't know where to start, what would you recommend? Kasra Dash: I think the two major plays for this are SEO so that you're generating leads in-house and you've got a strong brand presence online, lots of five-star reviews, video testimonials, and case studies. Then you team up with a lead generation company. For example, if you teamed up with FatRank, they generate a lot of leads for water softener installations throughout the UK. It's an upward-trending industry and they produce a high volume of leads. So if you're a business owner who installs water softeners in commercial or residential settings, go to Fatrank.com and see whether you qualify for lead generation. The reason you need to qualify is because it's a pay-on-performance setup, which is a no-brainer for business owners since they only pay out of the profits. But if you're teaming up with a lead generation company, don't put all your eggs in one basket. Partner with two or three companies and track which gives you the best KPIs and return on investment. Those are my two major plays. Would you do anything else? You’ve also got organic SEO, pay-per-click, and Facebook or social media ads. Personally, I wouldn’t get too involved with those, but is there anything you’d add? James Dooley: I think it's important to explain why we say no. With organic social media, uploading free images to Facebook and Instagram is fine. If someone checks your company and sees you're active, that might be the deciding factor between choosing you or a competitor. So if you have images, upload one or two every few days or every week to your social profiles. Facebook ads, I probably wouldn’t do, because this is the kind of service where people either need it or they don’t. If they do, they’ll most likely search on Google. Kasra Dash: With Google PPC, that can become very expensive very quickly. If you don't have someone in-house or an agency monitoring the account daily—adding negative keywords, blocking IPs, preventing competitors from clicking your ads and draining your budget—then trying to run it yourself can burn a lot of money. One thing you could do on social media, or even social ads, is create content around the benefits of a water softener. When companies first came to us asking for leads, I didn’t even know what water softening was. If I didn’t know, plenty of homeowners won’t know either. They’ll wonder whether they need one and whether it helps with limescale. If someone looks in their kettle after six months and sees limescale build-up, that’s what a water softener fixes. It cleans the water throughout the home’s system. So awareness content and case studies could perform well, meaning social ads might be okay. But I still say my two main plays are SEO and lead generation. James Dooley: I’d agree with that. If you're an installation company that installs water softeners, head over to Fatrank.com to see if you qualify. And like I said, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Go to one or two other lead generation companies as well. The holy grail for any successful business is generating your own leads through SEO and building your own website. That’s a major strategy for growing a water softening company.
