Framed around the everyday reality of tradespeople who are too busy working on roofs or installing solar panels to manage marketing themselves, the conversation reveals why lead generation has become its own trade — one that requires dedicated expertise, proof of results, and reliable KPIs.
Kasra Dash walks through the journey business owners face when choosing a freelancer or agency, highlighting the power of real case studies, genuine testimonials, and demonstrable results. Together, they explore how different channels perform, why cost per sale matters more than cost per lead, and how tracking each channel can transform forecasting and ROI. By the end of the episode, they uncover a simple resolution: partner with a company that can walk the walk, deliver exclusive real-time leads, and prove its value through measurable returns — or switch it off. Listeners will walk away knowing exactly what to demand from a lead generation partner and how to compare their performance across the UK.

James Dooley: So, if I’m looking to outsource my lead generation and maybe I’m looking for a freelancer because I don’t have enough time — I’m on the roof fixing someone’s roof or installing someone’s solar panels — what should I be looking at as a company?

Kasra Dash: Freelance lead generation is huge. In my opinion, that’s exactly what you should be doing. Digital marketing or generating leads is its own trade. If you’re a roofer, do what you do best — roofing — and then team up with a freelance lead generation company that can generate the right type of roofing leads. If you’re an electrician, go and do the electrics, but get a freelance lead generation company to bring you the right leads so you can win more work.

Realistically, you should use a freelance lead generation company that brings the leads while you focus on the sales, the quotes, winning the work, doing the job, making a profit, and hopefully getting a return on investment.

James Dooley: So, if I’m looking for a freelancer or a business to outsource my lead generation work, what should I be looking at? Case studies? Video testimonials? Videos like this where they explain themselves? What would you be looking at?

Kasra Dash: I’m the founder at Fat Rank and we’re a freelance lead generation company. Something I’m always making sure the team does is showing case studies. If someone’s a roofer in London, show roofing lead generation case studies — maybe from Manchester, Essex, or Bristol. If it’s an electrician, show electrician lead generation case studies.

As a freelance lead generation company, we’ve got to prove that we’re the best in the UK for the industry the company is in. So I’d say case studies, testimonials, and not just talking about it but walking the walk. Show what you can do — maybe give them ten free leads or even a month’s worth of free leads — and show that there’s some sort of guarantee on ROI. It’s also very important to track KPIs. If you were a solar panel company and I’m a freelance lead generation company, what KPIs would you be looking for?

Kasra Dash: A lot of companies only care about cost per lead, but that’s not the correct approach. Cost per lead is a factor, but it shouldn’t be the main KPI. I’d look at lead quality first — are the inquiries real or just dummies like “Mickey Mouse”? Then I’d look at how many out of ten calls are genuinely interested. How many convert? That lets me work backwards. Instead of looking at cost per lead, I’d look at cost per sale — how much it costs to actually acquire a sale.

If I’m a bigger company, spending on Facebook ads, PPC, or SEO, I’d want to track each channel. If I’m spending £5,000 a month on PPC, how many PPC leads convert into actual sales? If I’m spending £10,000 on SEO, how many SEO leads turn into paying customers? Same with YouTube or even billboards. And something worth noting — you might be working with two or three agencies. One for your website, one for SEO, one for lead generation. You need to track each channel as individually as possible.

James Dooley: For sure. If anyone watching this is a business owner looking for a freelance lead generation company, head over to fatrank.com. But if you do, make sure you’re looking for diversification of leads and tracking KPIs. Make sure you compare Fat Rank as a freelance lead generation company against your spending on SEO, Facebook ads, Instagram ads, and PPC. You might also be spending on Checkatrade, Yell, Bark, or TrustATrader.

Track those KPIs and I can pretty much guarantee that a freelance lead generation company at Fat Rank will get you the highest return on investment. And if we don’t — switch us off. It’s that simple. As a freelance lead generation company, we do everything we can to deliver real-time exclusive leads consistently, so you get more orders and more business.
